My Spoonflower Swatches Are Here!

Wow, that was a crazy long time to wait for swatches - you would think that New Zealand was only accessible by canoe. Nearly five weeks after placing an order I have finally received my fabric samples. Happily, they turned out well:

gobennygo Retro Televisions Teal Blue/Grey

gobennygo Retro Televisions Pink/Mint

gobennygo Retro Televisions Mustard/Teal Green

gobennygo Retro Televisions Red/Grey

The above photos were the swatches I chose to run with and are now available in my Spoonflower store. If you were interested in my Spoonflower experiment, I chose all the prints from my original files (which I created with no colour map) except the red. I found the brighter red, which looks a little garish on my monitor, printed much nicer than the dark red I had originally chosen. The rest of my original files were better - somehow richer. Here is an example of how the pinks compared (left is my original, right I chose using a colour map):

So, I will work as I usually do but I will be a little wary of reds if I want a vibrant colour.  Also, against white I will be wary of pale colours for some designs. In my graphic flower design I may redo the pink as it was a little too pale in print. I was pleased with the other colours though; here they are:

gobennygo - Graphic Flower Turquoise, Mustard, Orange

gobennygo Fabric - Graphic Flower Multi

I was also happy with the way my sewing prints looked, and I have to say that aside from the slow delivery of swatches Spoonflower offers an excellent service. The quality of the print and the cotton is superb.

gobennygo Fabric - Cotton Reels

gobennygo Fabric - Sew Cute

All in all it was a valuable exercise and I am confident now how to proceed in order to get the best results on Spoonflower. I am so excited about what is ahead too in terms of learning as in just over two weeks I am starting Module One of The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design. I am hanging out for it after hearing so much great feedback. I have enrolled for all three modules but will not be completed the entire course until early next year. Lots to look forward to...Yippee!
